Call for Proposals

 

Time Frame:  The Call for Proposals is open until September 18, 2015

 

Proposals are welcome from all program areas, disciplines and levels covering student services, professional development, assessment, administration, or content expertise. Issues of health, wellness and well-being are also encouraged.  Proposals may be from any configuration including individuals, teams, or panels within an institution or across institutions. Proposals may reflect creative endeavors or expressions, and a wide representation of scholarship.

 

The Black Women in the Academy Conference is being organized by the sisters of JMU who are affirming their contributions to higher education and establishing space for seeking answers to dilemmas of inclusion.  Black women are more powerful together than alone.  The isolation can be overwhelming, but connecting increases visibility.

 

Proposals must be in .doc/.docx form:

  • Contact Information of all presenters: name, affiliation, address, email address, contact number

  • Title: No more than 12 words

  • Brief Abstract: To be used in the program, no more than 50 words

  • Proposal: Provides support of the abstract.  No more than 500 words.

  • Time Frame:  Select 60-minute presentation or interactive workshop

 

Proposals should be emailed to brysonbj@jmu.edu with Sisters in the subject line.  An email receipt will be provided. Proposal review will start on August 31, 2015 with notifications of proposal acceptance to follow.

 

James Madison University is located in Harrisonburg VA conveniently located on I-81.

The AYA, a West African Adinkra symbol represents the fern, a hardy plant that can grow in difficult places.  It represents our resourcefulness and endurance.
