Much of the information on networking is from an extroverted point of view, as extraversion is a valued trait. The presenter, a Black introverted woman, will share personal examples of effective professional networking at an Ivy-league institution. Additionally, participants will identify and practice techniques for networking as their authentic selves.

Resumes are a critical component of the hiring process as we know, however, many people do not get past the application process. This is not because they wouldn’t do well in the position, they don’t fit the institution, or that they don’t have the experience. Most people aren’t getting the interview. Discuss techniques for developing and evaluating resumes.

The Intersection of Race and Gender on Black Women's Leadership Development in PWI'S

Deneen Evans & Karen Davis, Radford University

The primary purpose of this presentation is to discuss the challenges that African American women administrators/educators experience as professionals in predominantly white public institutions of higher education and the strategies they employ to cope with the resulting conflicts. The foundation for this discussion is rooted in Black Feminism.

Mentorship as Leadership:  Supporting Black Female African-American Ph.D. Students

This presentation will focus on mentorship and its role in the lives of female, African-American doctoral students. It will focus on the need for professors to mentor doctoral. students. Current literature regarding retention and specific ways that professors in academia can address it will be discussed.  Maximization of the student/professor relationship will be addressed.
